Rock School UK’s Samba Drum workshops will introduce your school to the sounds and rhythms of traditional samba drums and percussion instruments.
Samba drumming is a great fun activity to participate in and will create a very positive, vibrant and energetic atmosphere in your school. Our sessions require full group participation and interaction yet also allow pupils to investigate taking solo parts. Drumming is a fantastic way of developing team work and many other, more personal soft skills away from usual the day to day activities.
Half Day – 2 x 1 hour workshops. Working with two groups either in the morning or the afternoon. If required, there can be a finale Performance by both groups at the end of the sessions for an audience of your choice.
Full Day – 4 x 1 hour workshops. We can work with a class size of 35 in each 1 hour workshop. If required, there can be a finale Performance by both groups at the end of the sessions for an audience of your choice.
What the children learn…
- Introduction of Samba drumming and its roll in the Brazilian culture
- Take part in warm up sessions based around musical rhythms
- Learn how to play a selection of Samba drums and percussion instruments such as; Surdos,
- Djembes, Agogo Bells, Tambourims, Jam blocks, Shakers & Timbales
- Investigate playing various traditional Samba rhythms and create their own brand new rhythms
- Take part in a group performance incorporating solos
- Perform in front of parents, teachers and peers

African Drumming
During our African drumming workshops pupils will investigate various sounds and rhythms from around the African continent. Pupils will learn the history of the Djembe drum and about the importance of drumming in African culture, whilst learning how to play a selection of African drums and percussion instruments such as; large, medium & small Djembes, Shakeres and Ghana Bells.
Songs are often used alongside African drumming; our unique sessions will incorporate learning traditional songs from the Akon people of Ghana and Shona people of Zimbabwe. This will give everyone the opportunity to join in and create a unified sound that will resonate in the true spirit of Africa!
We encourage schools to invite fellow peers and parents to the live performances and the end of our session.
