George Bloomfield

Name: George Bloomfield

Qualifications and place of study: Grade 8 Guitar, Distinction. A-levels in Music and Music Technology.  Currently studying Audio Engineering (BSc) at Leeds Beckett University.

Favourite show played: This is a difficult one for me! We recently played a Funk/Disco set at Leeds ball with an amazingly lively crowd, and a saxophone-off standing on tables in the middle of the crowd which was great fun. Also before Christmas I played as part of a jazz ensemble for the Duchess of Rutland’s Birthday party in ‘Lemore Manor’ stately home. It was clear that the level of extravagance was going to be crazy when she arrived in a chauffeur driven Bentley and it made for a great experience.

Desert Island Disk: Has to be Stevie Wonder, Hotter than July for me!

What do you love about music: All the cliches are true! It is a language in itself and allows communication even when you cannot communicate verbally. It is very expressive whether played alone, or as part of a group. Mainly, its just a really good time.

Motto: Less is more (especially in music)

Biography: I self taught myself guitar and bass from the age of about 10, learning every Red Hot Chili Peppers riff I could from the internet. Growing up I played in various rock bands. In year 11 I entered myself into a grade 8 guitar exam and was surprised to pass with distinction first time. In college I was introduced to Jazz and blues, and found that playing a range of different styles was important to me. After studying Music and Music Technology at college, I moved to the French Alps for two years, playing après-ski music at various bars as part of the Jazz and blues duo ‘Tangerine Swing’. We have continued to play weddings and private events around the country and as far afield as Portugal. I have now moved to Leeds to study Audio Engineering to further explore my interest into the technical element of musical equipment, and to allow me to spend time in the studio. In Leeds I play as part of the Leeds University Jazz society big band, and have joined a funk/disco/jazz band that plays many university balls and in venues around Leeds.
